About
A documentary portrait of Michelangelo, from the marble quarries of Carrara to the chapels of Florence, Rome and the Vatican.
Michelangelo: Love and Death is a documentary by David Bickerstaff about the Renaissance artist Michelangelo. The film follows his life and work from the marble quarries of Carrara to museums and chapels in Florence, Rome and the Vatican. It looks at sculptures and paintings including David, the Pietà and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Through commentary by art historians and contemporary artists, rare footage and Michelangelo's own words, it sketches a portrait of a passionate, complex and sometimes contradictory artist and offers a view of his creative process and of how his work is studied and rediscovered today.
