About
A documentary in which Élodie Degavre revisits 1970s Belgian housing experiments by Paul Petit, Jean Englebert, Lucien Kroll and Simone Kroll.
Life, Assembled is a Belgian documentary by Élodie Degavre. It looks back at housing experiments from the 1970s by architects Paul Petit, Jean Englebert, Lucien Kroll and Simone Kroll, who appear as themselves. In Brussels, Liège and Charleroi they tested ways of building that departed from standard housing. Influenced by the social climate after May 1968, they worked with prefabrication, modular construction and participation by residents, aiming at homes that residents could afford, adapt and help shape. Half a century later, Degavre visits the architects and residents and uses archive material and personal accounts to consider the legacy of these projects.
