Jazz on a Summer's Day is a 1960 concert film directed by Bert Stern and Aram Avakian. It is set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. The film combines images of the water and the town with the performers and the audience. It moves from day to night and from improvisational music to gospel. Among the musicians who appear as themselves are Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Gerry Mulligan, Dinah Washington, Chico Hamilton, Anita O'Day, George Shearing and Jimmy Giuffre. There is little dialogue or narration, apart from periodic announcements by emcee Willis Conover.
