About
Filmmaker Pepa Lubojacki films her brother David and her cousins over five years as the family deals with alcoholism and homelessness.
In If Pigeons Turned to Gold, filmmaker Pepa Lubojacki turns the camera on her own family. Over five years she films her brother David Lubojacki and her cousins, who, like several family members, deal with alcoholism and homelessness. As children, Pepa and David were inseparable; the memories they share are both happy and traumatic. Mental health problems and addiction recur in the family, and two cousins struggle with the same problems. Lubojacki combines phone footage, old family photographs altered with artificial intelligence, electronic music and comments from a talking pigeon with her own reflections. She tries to understand why addiction repeats across generations and how the family might find a better future.
