Asked for a happy memory in an MRI scanner, Rosa drifts into a subconscious road trip with Dalva, the mother she barely knew.

Rosa, a woman in her fifties played by Veronica Cavalcanti, lies in an MRI scanner and is asked to recall a happy memory. She cannot. Her thoughts move instead to her childhood and to Dalva, her fiercely independent, queer mother, played by Luciana Souza, who was taken into custody after she intervened to protect a neighbour from domestic violence and the neighbour’s husband died.

With few happy memories from her youth, Rosa sets out in her subconscious on a road trip with the mother she hardly knew. In the sunlit hills and lively bars of northern Brazil, the two women picture the happy moments they never shared, and what is remembered and what is invented become harder to tell apart.
