About
A drama-documentary about Caravaggio, with Jack Bannell as the artist, tracing his life and work through clues in his paintings.
Caravaggio is a 2025 British drama-documentary directed by David Bickerstaff and Phil Grabsky. Jack Bannell plays the artist Caravaggio. Produced by Seventh Art Productions for the Exhibition on Screen series, the film was made over five years and follows Caravaggio's life and work through his paintings. Bickerstaff and Grabsky look for hidden narratives in his biography and for clues embedded in his art. The self-portraits in his work, sometimes disguised and sometimes in plain sight, are presented as a way into his psyche and personal struggles. The film brings together a succession of his works and sets out to tell the story of a complex and controversial figure.
