In Berlin, activists protest violence in Gaza and German state support while rehearsing a 1970s queer play under arrests and protest restrictions.
Ruben Desiere’s documentary Between Revolutions follows a diverse group of activists in Berlin who publicly oppose the violence in Gaza and the German state’s backing of it. They face arrests, possible deportation and strict curbs on protest, and keep looking for ways to carry on their campaign. In that setting they begin rehearsing a stage version of the 1970s queer book The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions. The film moves between the rehearsals and the daily work of activism. Passages from the play, touching on hierarchies, exclusion and mutual support, are set alongside the protests and press encounters that range from friendly to tense. The cast includes Kasz Wlaszczyk, Nomi Sladko, Prudence Dippah-Dina, Seba Stolarczyk, Hala Al Shihabi, Thistle Kosmonin and Kamal Mahameed.
