About
A Chilean filmmaker with Jewish and Palestinian family roots uses Super 8 reels and interviews to trace two family histories shaped by displacement and exile.
Rafael Guendelman is a Chilean filmmaker. His father’s side of the family is Jewish, while his mother’s family has roots in Palestine. When he finds Super 8 reels belonging to his father’s family, he begins investigating his background. Using archive footage and interviews, he moves between Chile, Israel and Palestine and reconstructs two family trajectories shaped by displacement and exile.
The film starts with Guendelman’s father, who moved to Israel around 1970. The film includes grainy Super 8 footage from Chile and Israel, past and present, while relatives and local residents share their memories.
