About
A struggling singer-songwriter discovers he is the only person who remembers the Beatles and starts performing their songs as his own.
Yesterday follows Jack Malik (Himesh Patel), a singer-songwriter in Lowestoft who performs for very small audiences. His manager and childhood friend Ellie Appleton (Lily James), a maths teacher, urges him to keep going. During a twelve-second power cut that affects the world, Jack is struck by a bus.
Once he has recovered, Jack plays the Beatles song "Yesterday" to friends, who praise it and take it for his own work. He finds that they have never heard of the Beatles; searches online produce nothing and the band's records are gone from his collection. Jack concludes that he is in a parallel present where the Beatles never existed. He starts playing their songs and presenting them as his.
