Layout
Fixed rows and a balcony
The main floor is the larger block and puts you closest to the stage. The balcony is the raised level; from there you look higher over the hall and the stage. Ask the box office for the current layout if you want an aisle seat or more legroom.
For most shows the choice is simple: main-floor seats for proximity, balcony seats for an overview. The hall is used for concerts, presentations and conferences as well as theatre.
Food and drink before or after the show
Hotel Restaurant Grandcafé 't Voorhuys, directly next to the theatre, serves lunch, high tea, dinner and wine tastings, with a menu for children. The theatre's foyer serves drinks before and after the performance.
You can make an evening of it: dinner before the show or a drink afterwards at the Grandcafé next door. The menu runs from lunch to high tea, dinner and wine tastings, and there is a separate children's menu.
If you want to stay in the theatre, the foyer is open for a drink before the start and after the final curtain. Ask at the bar for the current drinks menu.

The history of Theater 't Voorhuys
Theater 't Voorhuys opened on 23 December 1953 as a combined exchange building, theatre and café, designed by architect Alexander Bodon.
Construction began in 1952, after the Noordoostpolder was drained. Alexander Bodon designed the building, which opened in December 1953. On Thursdays, farmers from the polder came to the Beurszaal to sell their produce and exchange news; a Thursday-morning agricultural exchange still takes place there.
The theatre hall originally had loose chairs and a flat floor. It was used mainly for meetings at first, then increasingly for cultural evenings. Cultuurbedrijf Noordoostpolder has managed the theatre since 2015; the organisation also runs Museum Schokland, Kunstuitleen Emmeloord and the Muzisch Centrum.
