How many people fit in the Schaffelaartheater?
The BDUmedia Grote Zaal holds 560 people. The Kleine Zaal seats 200 and takes up to 300 standing. Across the halls and the Fonds1845 Foyer the theatre can host around 1,000 guests, depending on the layout.

Seating in the Grote Zaal and Kleine Zaal
The Grote Zaal is a lijsttheater: 560 seats in one raked auditorium facing the stage. The venue publishes a seat-map PDF on its visitor page; the plan marks the stage as TONEEL and the entrances as B and D.
For the straightest view, choose the centre of a row; the outer ends look across the stage at an angle, which matters most for dance and musicals. An aisle seat near entrance B or D is quickest to leave at the interval. The front rows are best for close-up detail, while the middle and rear rows show more of the whole stage.
The PDF does not label rake, restricted-view seats or row depth, so ask the box office for a specific row if sight lines are critical. For wheelchair places and seats for visitors who are less mobile, book directly with the box office.
The Kleine Zaal has 200 seats, or 300 standing places. Its retractable tribune and flat-floor stage let the venue switch between a seated theatre layout and standing room.
Food and drink before and after the show
The theatre's Schaffelaar Genietarrangementen add coffee or tea with something sweet before the show, or a borrel (a Dutch drinks reception) afterwards, at a reserved table in the foyer. Book an arrangement on the show page or by email, up to 24 hours before the performance.
Two partner restaurants are within walking distance: De Hebberd is 11 minutes (800 m) away and Bij 't Raadhuys 8 minutes (600 m). The theatre suggests parking in front of the theatre and walking to Bij 't Raadhuys.
At the horeca tills you can pay by card only; the old tokens are no longer valid. Most performances include an interval drink in the ticket price; if there is no interval, the first drink after the show is included.

Your visit: box office, cloakroom and tickets
The box office is open on Friday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00 and one hour before every performance. In July and August it is closed; email is answered several times a week. On Tuesday and Thursday the box office answers the phone from 10:00 to 11:00; other departments from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 to 14:00.
The cloakroom is free and sits by the entrance. Coats are not allowed in the hall because of evacuation safety. Most performances include an interval drink; if there is no interval, the first drink after the show is included.
Tickets can be exchanged up to 48 hours before the performance for a credit note or another show. The theatre charges 5 euro per exchanged ticket, and Vriend van Jan members exchange free up to 24 hours before. Some shows use Secure Tickets in the Ticketmatic app: they are not transferable, become visible 90 minutes before the show and can be collected at the box office from 60 minutes before if you have no smartphone.
Photos and video are not allowed at most performances. The theatre asks anyone who does film to keep the screen low for the people behind them.
Accessibility: wheelchairs, hearing and assistance dogs
Wheelchair users and visitors who are less mobile should book directly with the box office, by phone or email. The box office will discuss which place in the hall suits best.
Hearing amplification is available at the box office. Assistance dogs are welcome, but only a limited number of places suit them. A limited number of booster seats are available for children's shows and cannot be reserved in advance.
The theatre has an upper and lower foyer. Ask the box office about the route if you use a wheelchair.
