How many people fit in Rijswijkse Schouwburg?
The Grote Zaal seats 700 people in 22 rows; the Kleine Zaal is a flat-floor room for about 100 people with free seating rather than numbered seats.
The theatre says every place, including the back rows, has an excellent view of the stage. For events, the hall can also be reduced to a 240-person set-up, which is how the venue rents it for symposia and presentations.
The Kleine Zaal has no fixed seat numbers: visitors choose a place when they go in. It is used for intimate performances, try-outs and the Onbeperkt Kleine Zaal series. The venue does not publish a separate capacity for the foyer or the café.
The two halls are used separately, so the theatre does not publish one figure for the whole building. The table puts the halls beside two theatres that visitors to The Hague and Rijswijk will know.

Seating plan: rows, sides and which seats to choose
The theatre says all 700 seats in the Grote Zaal have a good sightline, and the Kleine Zaal has free seating on a flat floor.
The Grote Zaal has 22 numbered rows, split into an even (right) and odd (left) side to keep the entrances flowing. Seat numbers do not simply run 1, 2, 3 along a row: row 1 seats 1 and 3 are next to each other, so check the seat map when you book online.
The theatre says the view is excellent from every row, including the back. If you want to be close to the stage, choose one of the first rows. Because the odd numbers are on the left and the even numbers on the right, pick seat numbers on the same side to sit together.
Wheelchair and rollator spaces are in row 9 of the Grote Zaal, and the assistance-dog places with extra room are also in row 9. Book these by phone through the Nationale Theaterkassa on 070 250 1160; the theatre reserves a place for the wheelchair user and, where possible, one beside it for a companion.

Eating before the show at Theatercafé RIJ23
The theatre's own Theatercafé RIJ23 serves a two-course menu for €32.00 or a three-course menu for €39.50, excluding drinks, before most evening performances.
The café opens at 17:00 and welcomes you until two hours before the performance. For a matinee, the TheaterTafel is served after the show. Book the table online with your theatre tickets, or separately if you already have tickets; the number of places is limited.
The two-course menu is a starter and main, or a main and dessert; the three-course menu adds the third course. You receive a service email about five days before the performance to give your menu choice and any allergies or dietary wishes. The menu changes with the season, with separate cards for September/October and November/December.
For a group, the Borrel arrangement reserves your table with a borrel plank and an interval drink, so you do not have to queue. Children can join the Onbeperkt Pannenkoekenfeest with unlimited pancakes and lemonade. The café has its own entrance at the water, next to the car park.

Accessibility at Rijswijkse Schouwburg: wheelchairs, hearing and assistance dogs
Both halls have wheelchair spaces, booked by phone through the Nationale Theaterkassa on 070 250 1160; the theatre reserves one space for the wheelchair user and, where possible, one next to it for a companion.
There is a ramp at the entrance. A lift in the foyer reaches the Bovenfoyer, but there is no lift inside the Grote Zaal; the wheelchair and rollator spaces are in row 9. The accessible toilet is next to Ingang A of the Grote Zaal.
The Grote Zaal has a free Sennheiser Tourguide 2020-D system that sends sound wirelessly to headsets and bodypacks; there is no induction loop. Assistance dogs are welcome, and row 9 has places with extra room for the dog. Ask in advance: the theatre puts the request to the producer, and a show with loud sounds or strobe effects may not suit an assistance dog.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower keycord is available for visitors with an invisible disability, so staff can recognise them. A preparation document explains what to expect and where the quiet, low-stimulus places are. Rollator users can book the same row 9 spaces; reserving them is only possible through the box office, by phone or by email.

Getting to Rijswijkse Schouwburg by tram, bus and train
The theatre is at Generaal Spoorlaan 10, 2283 GM Rijswijk, a 2-minute walk from the bus stop Rijswijkse Schouwburg and 5 minutes from tram 17 at Generaal Spoorlaan.
From NS station Rijswijk, bus 23 towards Scheveningen Noord stops at Rijswijkse Schouwburg, 130 m and about 2 minutes on foot. The station itself is 1,510 m away, about 21 minutes on foot; the bus is the easy option with show clothes on.
Tram 17 stops at Generaal Spoorlaan, 310 m and 5 minutes from the entrance. From Den Haag Centraal, take tram 17; the walk from that station is 4,820 m, about 65 minutes, so the tram is the practical choice.
At night, bus N4 stops at Rijswijkse Schouwburg. The venue also lists bus 22 from Rijswijk station towards Den Haag Duindorp, with a stop at Generaal Spoorlaan (West) and an 11-minute walk. Bicycles can be left in the racks on the Generaal Spoorlaan.
Parking at Rijswijkse Schouwburg: rates and walking times
Parking around the theatre is paid from Monday to Sunday between 18:00 and 24:00: the first hour is free, then it costs €2.15 per hour.
Use parking zone 32255 and register at the ticket machine or in a parking app such as ANWB Onderweg, Yellowbrick or EasyPark. The first hour costs nothing (the licence plate must be registered); from the second hour you pay €2.15 per hour until 24:00, according to the municipality's tariffs as listed by Parkeerbewust. Around the Huis van de Stad the paid hours differ from those around the theatre.
There are eight disabled parking spaces on the car park at Huys de Wervelaan, next to the theatre. With a valid European disabled parking card registered to the car, parking there is free. The theatre advises arriving early when a show is sold out or when several performances fall on the same day.
The nearest public car park is at Hendrik Ravesteijnplein, 360 m or about 5 minutes on foot (distance from OpenStreetMap). No page we read publishes a rate for it, so the table says so. The municipality lists the Ravesteijnplein parking area separately from the theatre's (Schouwburg-Huis van de Stad), so do not assume the theatre's free first hour applies there. It is the fallback when the streets around the theatre are full.
| Parking | Address | Walk | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Street parking, zone 32255 | Generaal Spoorlaan and streets around the theatre | At the theatre | First hour free, then €2.15 per hour (18:00–24:00) |
| Disabled parking (8 spaces) | Huys de Wervelaan, next to the theatre | At the theatre | Free with a valid European disabled parking card |
| Hendrik Ravesteijnplein car park | Hendrik Ravesteijnplein, Rijswijk | 360 m, 5 min | Rate not published |

About Rijswijkse Schouwburg
Rijswijkse Schouwburg opened on 19 October 1991, in a building designed by architect Boot of the Rotterdam firm Van den Broek en Bakema. It stands on the large pond opposite the town hall, in the centre of Rijswijk.
The theatre has two halls: the Grote Zaal with 700 seats in 22 rows, and the Kleine Zaal with a flat floor and 100 places. It programmes about 200 performances a year, mixing professional companies with amateur groups and shows on location.
The programme covers cabaret, music, musical, dance, theatre, family and youth shows. Theatercafé RIJ23 makes the building a full evening out, with dinner before most shows. The theatre is also rented for symposia, presentations and congresses, using the Grote Zaal at full capacity or a 240-person set-up.
The location is central: an A4 exit is 5 minutes away by car, bus 23 and N4 stop 130 m from the door, and tram 17 stops 310 m away. Parking around the theatre is paid from 18:00 to 24:00, with the first hour free.
