How many people fit in Het Posttheater?
The Grote Zaal seats up to 285 people and the Kleine Zaal up to 80; both are flexible rooms with a retractable stand rather than a fixed balcony.
- Grote Zaal
- 148–285 seats
- Kleine Zaal
- max. 80 seats
- Bovenzaal
- No lift, not wheelchair accessible
The Grote Zaal has a flat floor and a telescopic stand. With the stand half out there are 148 seats, fully out 285; the standard stage layout seats 250. The room can also be converted into a dance floor or a dinner layout.
The Kleine Zaal has a retractable stand and at most 80 seats. Its stage is 6 metres wide (without wings), 6 metres deep and 4 metres high, with a 4.8 by 3.6 metre screen.
That makes Het Posttheater a small-house theatre. For scale: the Parkzaal of Musis & Stadstheater in Arnhem seats 850 to 1016 and its Muzenzaal up to 750, so Het Posttheater is the intimate option in the city.

Seating plan: where to sit in the Grote and Kleine Zaal
Both halls use a telescopic stand, which raises the rows behind the flat floor; the Grote Zaal seats 148 to 285 and the Kleine Zaal at most 80.

In the Grote Zaal the stand rises from the flat floor. The standard stage layout has 250 seats; with the stand half extended there are 148, fully extended 285. The wheelchair places are on the first row.
The Kleine Zaal is the more intimate room: a retractable stand for at most 80 people, a stage 6 metres wide and 6 metres deep, and a 4.8 by 3.6 metre screen.
Because both halls are small, the front rows are close to the performer and the back rows still have a direct line of sight. There are two wheelchair places per performance, on the first row; book them by phone or e-mail because they are allocated in order of request. The Bovenzaal is up a staircase and has no lift.
Food and drink at Het Posttheater
The theatre serves drinks on show nights rather than dinner: every ticket includes a drink in the interval or after the show, and the foyer bar is pin-only.
The foyer has a bar and bistro tables. In the interval, soft drinks, beer and wine are ready; if the show has no interval, the drink is served afterwards. Payment is by pin only, not credit card.
For dinner before the show, Eetwinkel STROOM, Caspar, Goed Proeven and De Blauwe Hoek are within walking distance.
The foyer can also be booked for drinks, lunch or dinner around a performance through [email protected].

Tickets, e-tickets and the box office
Tickets are sold online 24 hours a day; on performance evenings the box office is open from 19:30 to 20:15, and printing is optional because the barcode can be scanned from your phone.
Advance sales are online only: telephone and e-mail reservations are not possible. On the evening itself you can buy at the box office from 19:30, but the website is the main channel.
You receive an e-ticket with a barcode by e-mail. Show it on your phone or print it; if the download fails, collect it at the box office before the show.
Tickets cannot be returned. You can exchange to another performance in the same season up to two working days before the show for €3 per order, or take a voucher for the amount minus booking costs; the voucher is valid for two years.
Groups of more than ten people should e-mail [email protected].

Parking at Het Posttheater: free on-site and nearby garages
On performance evenings you can park free on the theatre's own site (about 30 spaces) or on the Dirkzwager deck opposite; the gate closes an hour after the show, so arrive early. The paid garages and car parks within walking distance are in the table.
The theatre's car park is at Rosendaalsestraat 27. It has about 30 spaces and fills quickly; the gate is locked about an hour after the performance. Bicycles can be left on the site.
The Dirkzwager legal & tax deck at Velperweg 1, entrance Arbeidstraat, is used on busy evenings. It is free on weekdays from 19:15 and you can leave at any time. A board at the theatre gate shows whether the deck is open.
The paid Parkeergarage Velperpoort is at Ir. J.P. van Muijlwijkstraat 175, three minutes' walk. It charges €2.50 per hour with a maximum day rate of €15 and is open daily from 07:00 to 23:30. The smaller 1e Wijkstraat, Bloemstraat and Velperbuitensingel car parks are seven to nine minutes' walk and have no evening tariff: expect €4.60 per hour at the first two and €3.50–€4.60 at Velperbuitensingel. Rates were checked on 30 October 2026; the meter is definitive.

History of Het Posttheater: from post office to cabaret stage
Het Posttheater began in 1992 in the former post office on the Driekoningenstraat and moved in 2000 to the monumental KAB building behind Velperpoort station, which opened as a theatre on 19 March 2001.
The first home was a former post office; the theatre takes its name from it. It started as a rehearsal space for the youth theatre platform Gelderland, acquired lights and seats, and in the mid-nineties hosted its first cabaret try-out.
The KAB building dates from 1896 and was the seat of the Catholic Workers' Movement 'St Joseph'. After the KAB and Posttheater foundations merged, it was converted into a professional theatre with three halls and about 35,000 visitors a year; the art deco details were kept.
The theatre grew into the cabaret stage of the east. Artists place it in their top three favourite theatres, and young makers get space to develop work in the Bovenzaal.
