About
After his plane crash-lands in Siberia, a Russian ballet dancer who defected to the West is recognized by the KGB and taken to Leningrad.
Russian ballet dancer Nikolai 'Kolya' Rodchenko, played by Mikhail Baryshnikov, defected to the West years ago. When his plane to Tokyo develops electrical problems and crash-lands in Siberia, he is injured and recognised by KGB officer Colonel Chaiko (Jerzy Skolimowski). Chaiko has him taken to Leningrad, where he wants Kolya to dance at the Kirov's opening night. To persuade him, Chaiko brings in Galina Ivanova (Helen Mirren), a former ballerina and an old flame of Kolya who never left the Soviet Union. Chaiko also contacts Raymond Greenwood (Gregory Hines), an American tap dancer who has defected to the Soviet Union, and assigns him to look after Kolya.
