About
In a shrinking Thessalian village, two cousins and a group of older women grow organic tomatoes and try to sell their jarred products worldwide.
In the Thessalian village of Iliás, where 33 people still live, cousins Christos Takas and Alexandros Gousiaris begin growing organic tomatoes. Several older women from the village help pasteurise the tomatoes and fill jars with tomato paste and sauces. Christos Takas and Alexandros Gousiaris appear as themselves, as do Olga Lorida, Agathi Gousiari, Katina Gousiari, Stavroula Govari and Niki Karava. Alexandros is convinced that tomatoes ripen better when he plays Wagner in the fields, which explains the film’s title. The documentary follows the group as they try to sell their tomato products to organic supermarkets around the world and as the women travel to Belgium, their first trip abroad.
