About

In 1933 Berlin, a Jewish journalist flees to Switzerland, and his family follows, while nine-year-old Anna must leave her beloved pink rabbit.

Caroline Link's film, based on Judith Kerr's semi-autobiographical novel, is set in Berlin in 1933. Arthur Kemper (Oliver Masucci), a well-known Jewish journalist, is warned that his name is on a Nazi death list and flees to Switzerland. His wife Dorothea (Carla Juri) and their children, nine-year-old Anna (Riva Krymalowski) and twelve-year-old Max (Marinus Hohmann), remain in Berlin-Grunewald for the time being. When Dorothea learns that the family's passports could be taken, they follow Arthur by train before the Reichstag election on 5 March 1933. Anna has to leave almost everything behind, including her beloved pink stuffed rabbit.
