About
In a wintry Hungarian town, a young newspaper delivery man and his composer uncle watch a sinister circus unsettle the residents.
In an unnamed, isolated small town in Hungary during winter, Lars Rudolph plays János Valuska, a young newspaper delivery man. János is devoted to his uncle György Eszter, played by Peter Fitz, a composer and musicologist who writes about the musical scale and the ideas of Werckmeister. A travelling circus arrives in the town, and its main attractions draw the residents: the mounted skeleton of a whale and a mysterious figure called the Prince. The circus casts a shadow over daily life, and at the post office the workers are unsettled by ominous signs of its arrival. Hanna Schygulla appears as Tünde Eszter and Alfréd Járai as Lajos Harrer.
