About

A Seattle high school hacker connects to a military supercomputer and triggers a false alarm that threatens nuclear war.

David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) is a Seattle high school student who knows his way around computers. He uses his home computer and modem to get into the school district's system and change grades for himself and his classmate Jennifer Mack (Ally Sheedy). While trying to find a computer game company, he connects to an unidentified system. It is a NORAD supercomputer called WOPR, programmed to run war simulations. David's access sets off a false alarm that threatens to start World War III, and he tries to outwit the machine.
