About

In Tokyo's red-light district, host Hikaru sells romantic fantasies to women; Fernando Souza's documentary on Japanese host clubs blurs fiction and reality.

In Tokyo's red-light district, Hikaru works as a host. He makes a fortune selling women romantic fantasies: he keeps female clients company, flirts with them and lets them fall in love for payment, playing the role of the perfect man. The documentary follows this world of Japanese host clubs, described as a largely unknown world of glittering façades. Director Fernando Souza, who has himself worked as a host, takes us into the phenomenon. The film, like the host, blurs fiction and reality.
