About

In a Belgian Ardennes village at Christmas 1999, a boy’s disappearance and a storm unsettle twelve-year-old Antoine, who knows more than he says.

At Christmas 1999 in Olloy, a village in the Belgian Ardennes, twelve-year-old Antoine Courtin (Jérémie Senez) lives with his mother, Blanche (Sandrine Bonnaire). Next door are the Desmedts: six-year-old Rémi, his sister Émilie (Margot Bancilhon) and their father Michel (Charles Berling). The village doctor, Hubert Dieulafoy (Philippe Torreton), takes a fatherly interest in Antoine, who borrows his books on anatomy. Rémi often follows Antoine to a hidden hut in the woods. Then Rémi disappears. A large search in the nearby forest finds nothing, and on the third day a devastating storm forces it to be called off. Antoine is the only one who knows what happened, and he lives in fear of being discovered. Fifteen years later, after his medical studies, Antoine (Pablo Pauly) returns to a village that has barely changed; forestry workers have begun clearing the storm damage.
