About
After his father falls seriously ill in China, filmmaker Louis Hothothot films his mother and sister as they rebuild their lives.
Louis Hothothot returns to China in 2022 when his father becomes seriously ill. A mandatory 28-day quarantine keeps him apart from the family during that period. The documentary follows his mother and sister as each reshapes her life: his mother moves to the village where her husband is buried, believing that his gentle spirit still lingers there and needs care, while his sister stays in Beijing. She works as a matchmaker, helping others find love while balancing the expectations placed on her as a daughter with her wish for a family of her own. Hothothot also examines how misogyny has marked the lives of the women in his family across generations. He moves between Europe and China, while the care of his mother becomes a central concern.
