About
A recently orphaned girl from India moves to her uncle's Yorkshire manor, where she discovers a locked garden and hears mysterious crying.
In 1901, ten-year-old Mary Lennox (Kate Maberly) is sent from British India to Misselthwaite Manor in Yorkshire after her parents are killed in an earthquake. Her uncle, Lord Archibald Craven (John Lynch), spends most of his time away, and housekeeper Mrs. Medlock (Maggie Smith) tells Mary he will likely not see her. Neglected and unable to cry, Mary explores the large house and grounds. She hears strange crying and finds a hidden door leading to unused rooms, including her late aunt's old room, where she discovers a large key. Outside, she comes upon her Aunt Lilias's walled garden, locked since her death ten years earlier.
