About

Erika Stürmer-Alex and Christine Müller-Stosch, two 81-year-old women on a Brandenburg art farm, look back on their lives in the GDR.

The documentary The Quiet Resistance portrays Erika Stürmer-Alex and Christine Müller-Stosch, two 81-year-old women who live together on a self-converted art farm in Lietzen, on the edge of the Oderbruch in Brandenburg. It opens with Erika Stürmer-Alex winter-proofing the house she shares with Christine Müller-Stosch. In the next scene, the two women read from their Stasi files and amuse themselves over how little the Stasi understood of what shaped their lives. Their everyday life on the farm frames the film, while conversations, diary excerpts, private photographs and footage of performances trace the two women's biographies in the GDR and in reunified Germany.
