About

In 1890s Paris, a disfigured Phantom haunting the Opera House demands that Christine Daaé replace the prima donna, while Raoul hopes to marry her.

At the Paris Opera House in the 1890s, the Vicomte Raoul de Chagny (Norman Kerry) attends a performance of Faust, where Christine Daaé (Mary Philbin) is to sing. Raoul would prefer that Christine give up her career and marry him, but she puts her singing first. The theatre has new managers, and the outgoing ones warn them about an Opera Ghost said to occupy box No. 5. Prima donna Carlotta receives a letter signed by the Phantom (Lon Chaney), demanding that Christine take her place the next evening and threatening serious consequences if she does not. Rupert Julian directs this 1925 American silent horror film, adapted from Gaston Leroux's novel.
