About
A pub landlord in a former mining town bonds with a Syrian refugee while trying to keep his pub open.
The Old Oak is set in County Durham, in a former mining town whose best years are behind it. TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner) runs the local pub, The Old Oak, and is trying to keep it open. It is the last public place in the town where people can still come together. When Syrian refugees are housed in empty buildings, tensions rise among the residents. Among them is Yara (Ebla Mari), who documents her journey and the people she encounters with a camera. A bond develops between TJ and Yara as the town's different worlds meet in the pub.
