About
A San Francisco private detective takes a missing-person case that draws him into a hunt for a priceless statuette, the Maltese Falcon.
In San Francisco, private detectives Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) and Miles Archer run a detective agency. A young woman (Mary Astor) comes to the office calling herself Ruth Wonderly. She asks them to find her sister, who has run off with a man named Floyd Thursby. Archer agrees to take the case, while Spade is uneasy about the story. The woman later appears to Spade under the name Brigid O'Shaughnessy. Spade's investigation brings him into contact with a group of criminals, including Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre) and Kasper Gutman (Sydney Greenstreet), who are after a valuable statuette known as the Maltese Falcon.
