About
An unknown Danish architecture teacher wins a competition launched by the French president to design the Grande Arche in Paris.
In 1983, an anonymous open architecture competition is held in France for a new monumental building in Paris. It comes at the initiative of the socialist president François Mitterrand, played by Michel Fau. Large international firms take part, but the choice falls on a virtually unknown Danish architecture teacher, Johan Otto von Spreckelsen (Claes Bang). Until then he has completed only four buildings: his home and three small chapels.
The win puts von Spreckelsen in charge of the Grande Arche de la Défense, the largest construction project of the period. The cast also includes Sidse Babett Knudsen as Liv von Spreckelsen, Xavier Dolan as Jean-Louis Subilon and Swann Arlaud as Paul Andreu.
