About
In 1926, Dutch-born Antonia Brico dreams of becoming a conductor, an ambition no one takes seriously.
Set in the United States in 1926, The Conductor follows Antonia Brico, played by Christanne de Bruijn and also listed as Willy Wolters. She is a 24-year-old Dutch woman who emigrated with her parents as a child. Antonia dreams of becoming a conductor, but nobody takes that ambition seriously; her piano teacher advises her not to audition for the conservatory. The film is based on Brico's life and shows a woman pursuing a profession that, in the early twentieth century, was not socially accepted for women, and she meets opposition from various people. Benjamin Wainwright appears as Frank Thomsen, with Scott Turner Schofield as Robin Jones and Seumas F. Sargent as Mark Goldsmith.
