About

A former Bolshoi conductor, now a janitor, intercepts an invitation to Paris and tries to reunite his old orchestra to perform there.

Le Concert is a film by Radu Mihăileanu. Andrey Simonovich Filipov (Aleksey Guskov) was once the world-famous conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre orchestra. In 1980 his career is destroyed when he refuses to remove Jewish musicians from the orchestra, and he now works as a janitor in the theatre where he once conducted. While cleaning the director's office, he intercepts a fax: Olivier Morne Duplessis (François Berléand), director of the Théâtre du Châtelet, invites the Bolshoi orchestra to Paris at short notice to replace a cancelled concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. With his former cellist Aleksandr 'Sasha' Abramovich Grosman (Dmitri Nazarov), now an ambulance driver, Filipov sets out to bring his old orchestra back together and appear in Paris in place of the current Bolshoi ensemble. For the concerto, he engages a young violin soloist, Anne-Marie Jacquet (Mélanie Laurent).
