About

A documentary set in a Bulgarian provincial town where Arsenal workers make weapons for Ukraine while many support Putin and a pacifist weighs his principles.

The Big Boom! visits Kazanlak, a provincial town in Bulgaria where the arms manufacturer Arsenal shapes daily life. A large part of the population works for the company, which produces machine guns and rockets that are mainly meant for Ukraine, even though many employees sympathise with Putin. In that setting, a pacifist considers whether to put his principles aside in the war against Russia. Elsewhere in town, rose growers who matter to the local economy depend on Roma labour for the harvest while making racist remarks about Roma. The daughter of a Ukrainian refugee is bullied and no one intervenes. Three older writers start an action group against Soviet-era monuments, but almost no one pays attention. Arsenal's sponsorship signs are visible in the streets, and test shots can be heard from the surrounding fields.
