About

A documentary by Afsaneh Salari about two cosmetic clinics in Tehran, their patients and the surgeons deciding on appearances.

Tehran, Under the Skin is a documentary by Afsaneh Salari, an Iranian filmmaker who lives in Paris. In the film she looks inside two cosmetic clinics in Tehran, where the waiting rooms are busy with patients who want a new nose or liposuction. A male and a female surgeon make decisions every day about the appearance of their patients. They do not grant every wish, however much they are asked. Salari interviews the clients with humour and empathy. Each time she visits Tehran, she wonders where the popularity of cosmetic surgery comes from.
