About
A widowed architect in Seattle and a Baltimore reporter engaged to another man are drawn together after his young son calls a radio talk show.
Architect Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) moves from Chicago to Seattle with his eight-year-old son, Jonah (Ross Malinger), after the death of his wife, Maggie. More than a year later, on Christmas Eve, Jonah calls a nationally broadcast radio talk show and asks for help finding his father a new wife. Sam is reluctant but goes on the air and speaks about how much he misses Maggie.
Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, hears the broadcast. She is engaged to the sensible Walter (Bill Pullman), yet feels that something is missing from their relationship. After Sam's radio appearance, thousands of women write to him; Annie is one of his listeners.
