About
An Austrian biographical film about painter Maria Lassnig, played by Birgit Minichmayr, and her search for a personal artistic language.
Anja Salomonowitz's Austrian biographical film centres on the painter Maria Lassnig, played by Birgit Minichmayr. It follows Lassnig from childhood to old age, with Minichmayr portraying her at every stage and without make-up changes to alter her age; the figure is presented as if outside time. The film looks at her search for a personal artistic language and at her position in a male-dominated art world, where she fights for her painting. It also covers her relationships and her artistic success. The cast includes Johanna Orsini-Rosenberg as Mathilde Lassnig, Lukas Thomas Watzl as Hans Werner Poschauko and Oskar Haag as Arnulf Rainer.
