About
Four years with Zaira, an elderly woman who keeps her daily life going in the marshlands of southern Iraq as the water drops.
Zaira, an elderly woman, lives in the marshlands of southern Iraq, in the wetlands of the Euphrates and the Tigris, surrounded by water, swaying reeds and birds. Over four years a camera follows her daily occupations: she herds water buffalo, cuts reeds, gathers wood and bakes bread. She grumbles at a disobedient buffalo and complains about the man who comes to sell her cattle feed, which has grown more expensive again.
During those four years the water level drops, fewer birds are heard and the buffalo become thinner. Many people leave, but Zaira stays.
