About
A 2001 documentary by William Greaves on Ralph Bunche, an African American diplomat and United Nations mediator, based on Brian Urquhart’s biography.
William Greaves’s 2001 documentary Ralph Bunche: An American Odyssey profiles Ralph Bunche (1903–1971), an American politician, mediator and United Nations diplomat. The film draws on Brian Urquhart’s 1993 biography of the same name. Greaves worked on the project for ten years and studied manuscripts, newspapers, photographs and newsreel footage. Bunche was an African American diplomat; before him, no person of colour had received the Nobel Peace Prize. The documentary follows his life and legacy, including his work against racial inequality and colonialism and his role at important moments in history.
