About
Two engineers in a garage accidentally discover a time-related side effect while working on a weight-reduction machine.
In Primer, Aaron (Shane Carruth) and Abe (David Sullivan) work on technology projects in Aaron's garage alongside their day jobs. With Robert (Casey Gooden) and Philip (Anand Upadhyaya), they run a small company that produces and sells JTAG cards, using the income to fund their research. Their latest project is a machine meant to reduce an object's weight.
During tests, Abe notices a side effect and comes to suspect that the object is moving through time. He continues the work in secret and builds a prototype apparatus large enough for one person. After a small experiment, he tells Aaron, and together they build a larger version.
