About
Elizabeth Bennet clashes with the proud Mr. Darcy when wealthy bachelor Charles Bingley moves into the neighbourhood.
In late 18th-century England, Mr. Bennet (Donald Sutherland) and Mrs. Bennet (Brenda Blethyn) live at Longbourn, their estate in Hertfordshire, with their five daughters: Jane (Rosamund Pike), Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), Mary (Talulah Riley), Kitty (Carey Mulligan) and Lydia (Jena Malone). Mrs. Bennet is eager to secure suitable marriages for them. When wealthy bachelor Charles Bingley moves into nearby Netherfield Hall, he, his sister Caroline and his friend Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) meet local society at an assembly ball. Bingley and Jane are immediately taken with each other, while Elizabeth dislikes the snobbish Darcy and overhears his dismissive remarks about her. During a later visit to the Bingleys, Jane stays on to recuperate, and Elizabeth spars with Caroline and the aloof Darcy.
