About

In 1984, a group of London LGBT activists collects money for striking miners, then tries to deliver it to a Welsh mining village.

Based on a true story, Pride is set in Britain in 1984, during the miners' strike. After seeing news reports, gay activist Mark Ashton (Ben Schnetzer) arranges a bucket collection at the Gay Pride march in London for the striking miners. Encouraged by the response, he starts Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. Early members include Joe "Bromley" (George MacKay) and the older gay couple Jonathan Blake (Dominic West) and Gethin Roberts (Andrew Scott), whose bookshop Gay's the Word becomes the group's headquarters. The group runs into prejudice in the mining areas, while some gay people object because of how miners have treated them before. With no reply from the union, the activists choose to bring their donations to Onllwyn, a small mining village in Wales.
