About
In a rural mountain village in Mexico, three girls grow up under cartel control as their families work poppy fields and violence is constant.
Prayers for the Stolen is set in a rural village in the mountains of Mexico, where Ana, María and Paula grow up while drug cartels control the region. During harvest season, many villagers work the poppy fields for the cartels. The girls are played as children by Ana Cristina Ordóñez, Blanca Itzel Pérez and Camila Gaal, and as adolescents by Marya Membreño, Giselle Barrera Sánchez and Alejandra Camacho.
Ana's mother, Rita (Mayra Batalla), teaches her daughter to hide in a hole to keep her from being taken. Ana's father has left the village to look for work and support the family. The village has limited economic opportunity and access to education and medical care, and the threat of cartel violence is constant.
