About
Sally and Gillian Owens grow up with their aunts under a family curse that dooms any man who loves an Owens woman.
In Massachusetts, Sally and Gillian Owens grow up in the home of their aunts Frances and Jet after their parents die. The sisters descend from a long line of witches, and their aunts teach them the uses of practical magic. The family lives under an old curse: any man who falls in love with an Owens woman dies.
The curse goes back to their ancestor Maria Owens, who survived an attempted execution for witchcraft and was banished to an island. There she cast a spell to keep herself from falling in love again, and it became a curse on her descendants. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play Sally and Gillian; Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest play Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet.
