About
Star, in a Kenyan village, tries to prove her claim to ancestral land after spotting a childhood photo of herself in a book.
In the Kenyan village of Sayit, residents are about to receive official ownership of their ancestral land. Star (Sarah Karei), 38, is left out: her parentage is unknown and she has no husband, so she cannot prove a right to the land where she lives. An old photobook about nomadic peoples offers a lead: a childhood photo of her is on the cover. In the same image is a hand with traditional tattoos that she recognises from a woman who sells food in the village. Star tries to find the foreign photographer, considers asking a friend to marry her and enters a questionable agreement with an aid organisation as village tensions grow. Norng’aruani Kipuker plays Nane, Amos Leuka plays Chief, Irungu Mutu plays the NGO Director and Davina Leonard plays Jessica; Boniface Saitabau is also in the cast.
