About
In 1938, London stockbroker Nicholas Winton helps Jewish children flee Czechoslovakia, while decades later he looks back on his efforts.
One Life moves between two periods in the life of Nicholas Winton. In 1938, the 29-year-old London stockbroker, played by Johnny Flynn, travels to Prague, weeks after the Munich Agreement. There he meets families who have fled Germany and Austria after the rise of the Nazis and are now living in refugee camps with scant food and shelter. Shocked by what he sees, Winton decides to help as many children as possible. With Doreen Warriner (Romola Garai) and Trevor Chadwick (Alex Sharp) of the British Committee for Refugees from Czechoslovakia, and supported by his mother Babi (Helena Bonham Carter), he works to overcome bureaucratic obstacles, gathers donations and searches for foster families in Britain. The film also follows Winton as a 79-year-old, played by Anthony Hopkins, looking back on that period.
