About
A thirteen-year-old Shuar girl in the Amazon is troubled by dreams of a garden spirit and turns to her great-aunt's traditional garden.
Thirteen-year-old Nunkui lives in a Shuar community in the Amazon with her grandparents, her uncles and her cousins. She often dreams of the garden spirit Nunkui, who bears her name. Nunkui does not know this spirit and cannot make sense of the dreams. They scare her, because she fears the figure is an Iwianch, a dangerous spirit. Curiosity, anxiety and a shortage of food lead her to Rosa, her great-aunt, who still tends a traditional garden known as an aja shuar. There Nunkui learns about Rosa's knowledge, while the garden and the sacred songs called anents slowly become a refuge for her. The cast includes Sana Maiche, Domingo Ankuash, Entsa Maiche, Diana Mashenda, Blanca Lewin, Juana Rosa Maichi, Lenin Tsamarenia and Julia Silva.
