About
A Polish documentary about Kherson after its liberation, where four residents try to continue daily life while war continues across the Dnieper.
Notes From a Besieged City is a Polish documentary directed by Mateusz Mularski. It looks at Kherson, a Ukrainian port city that spent almost nine months under Russian occupation and was retaken in November 2022. The city remains under fire: Russian forces are stationed across the Dnieper, less than five kilometres away, and rocket strikes and drones are heard day and night. Much of the city is damaged and quiet, with few people in the streets. Four residents who stayed describe their attachment to Kherson and the years before the war, while trying to keep daily life going between evacuations by meeting for coffee, feeding stray dogs and tending small gardens. The black-and-white footage was shot between 2023 and 2025.
