About

Monsieur Hulot, dreamy uncle of nine-year-old Gérard, visits his sister's ultra-modern family home, Villa Arpel, in a new Paris suburb.

Monsieur Hulot, played by Jacques Tati, is the dreamy and impractical uncle of nine-year-old Gérard Arpel. Gérard lives with his parents, Monsieur and Madame Arpel (Jean-Pierre Zola and Adrienne Servantie), in Villa Arpel, an ultra-modern geometric house and garden in a new suburb of Paris, just beyond the old neighborhoods. Monsieur Arpel holds a high position at a plastic factory, and the family's life is organized around work, possessions and displays for guests.

Hulot lives in a top-floor apartment in a grimy corner of the city. He visits the family, especially for his nephew, while his sister Madame Arpel wants to win him over to their new way of life and tries to set him up with a wife and a job.
