About
In 1968, female machinists at Ford Dagenham protest unequal pay, and Rita O'Grady is drawn into union negotiations with management.
In 1968, the Ford car plant in Dagenham employs a small group of women among thousands of men. Rita O'Grady (Sally Hawkins) is one of the machinists who sew the cars' upholstery. When the women learn that their work has been regraded as lower-paid unskilled labour and that their male colleagues earn more, they vote to strike if management does not meet their demands. Foreman Albert Passingham (Bob Hoskins) asks Rita to join Connie (Geraldine James) in the union negotiations with management. Rita tells her husband Eddie (Daniel Mays) about the unrest at work, and he laughs.
