About
A young Polish poet and a Jewish girl meet in a postwar displaced persons camp, where she asks him to go West.
After the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, a young Polish poet, Tadeusz (Daniel Olbrychski), is among the survivors placed in a displaced persons camp in Germany. There he meets Nina (Stanisława Celińska), a headstrong Jewish girl who asks him to leave for the West with her. Tadeusz, shaped by his camp experience, is reluctant to commit and cannot cope with her growing demands for affection, while he still harbours hatred for the Germans and disdain for fellow survivors who quickly fall into petty enmities.
