About
A documentary about La Graciosa, the Canaries' eighth island, where residents of Caleta de Sebo discuss tourism, community and tradition.
La Graciosa – Canarian Dreams is a documentary by Karin Kaper and Dirk Szuszies. The filmmakers have known La Graciosa, now officially recognised as the eighth island of the Canaries, since 1994. The film shows how the island and its people have changed over the following three decades. In Caleta de Sebo, the only inhabited village, life was once marked by fishing and mutual help; today tourism increasingly shapes everyday life. Residents talk about their lives and these changes. They discuss the role of women and the cohesion of the community, as well as the loss of traditions. The protection of the island also concerns them: some work for nature and the environment, while others see growing tourism above all as a new source of income.
