About
In 1950s Los Angeles, three LAPD officers investigate a diner shooting amid corruption.
In 1953 Los Angeles, the LAPD is trying to repair its public image after years of corruption. Sergeant Edmund Exley, played by Guy Pearce, is focused on his career and is the son of a celebrated detective whose murder was never solved. Narcotics sergeant Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) seeks publicity and works with tabloid journalist Sid Hudgens (Danny DeVito) on celebrity arrests. Officer Wendell White (Russell Crowe) is volatile and uses violence against suspects, especially men who abuse women. On Christmas Eve, White meets Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger) and Susan Lefferts, who work as prostitutes and are connected to businessman Pierce Patchett (David Strathairn), who runs a prostitution ring whose women are surgically altered to resemble film stars. A shooting at an all-night diner draws the officers into a conspiracy.
