About
A theatre troupe stages a modern-day story of Christ in the Negev Desert, told from Judas Iscariot's perspective.
In Jesus Christ Superstar, a theatre troupe travels by bus into the Negev Desert to stage a modern-day re-enactment of the story of Christ in song. The story is told from the perspective of Judas Iscariot (Carl Anderson), who becomes troubled as Jesus (Ted Neeley) attracts followers and speaks of being the son of God rather than of social injustices. Judas clashes with Jesus over his association with Mary Magdalene (Yvonne Elliman) and the expensive ointments she buys for him. Barry Dennen plays Pontius Pilate. Norman Jewison directs the 1973 musical, based on Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's concept album.
